What is a Dental Bridge?

A great smile is the most striking feature that people will notice about you. However, teeth are fragile and your great smile can easily be disrupted. Among the worst is when your molars are the victim. In the event that your molar(s) are detached entirely from the gums, gaping holes will be left behind. These can be quite embarrassing, not to mention seriously uncomfortable. Swallowing can become difficult if you don’t have your strong molars to chew your food.
If you are in such a condition, there’s no need to worry, as dental bridges will come in handy. Dental bridges are often used by dentists to replace missing teeth. Many people feel uncomfortable with missing teeth, no matter the location of their gap. However, this is only one reason why you may want to get a dental bridge!
How Do They Work?
Dental bridges, as the name suggests, are normally bridged between two healthy teeth. They work by securing the false tooth to a plate which is sitting in the mouth and firmly hooked onto either side of a healthy tooth with a metal hook. This kind of dental bridge is removable and can be easily taken out of the mouth. When the bridge is constructed without the plate, it is permanently cemented to the two healthy teeth on either side of the missing tooth. This gives rise to two kinds of dental bridges: removable and permanent bridges. With the removable kind of bridge, you can take it out of the mouth and clean it, as opposed to the permanent one.
The commonly used materials for the bridges include: porcelain, porcelain-fused metal, and gold. Bridges must be perfectly fixed and constructed to avoid any periodontal problem, especially with the permanent bridges. Precision is paramount and this calls for a skilled dentist in order to avoid the long-term pain that can come as a result of improper construction of the dental bridges.
Why Get a Dental Bridge?
Most folks often fail to draw a clear distinction between a denture and a dental bridge. Dentures are used to replace an entire row of teeth while dental bridges are set to replace missing teeth. Consequently, bridges are more suitable than the full false teeth. The interesting bit with bridges is that, they help you save on your natural teeth. Moreover, unlike the full false teeth that are very uncomfortable to wear, bridges feel just like your natural teeth. They never slip and you can eat certain foods that you normally couldn’t when wearing the false full teeth.
Having an amazing smile is as important as being able to eat all that you want with no fear. Dental bridges basically close the gap, enabling you to have as many natural teeth as possible. You can therefore achieve that great smile you’ve always dreamed of with these bridges.
