If you have had a tooth pulled, you may need a relatively simple and straightforward restorative dental procedure called dental bridges, which are false teeth used to replace missing teeth.

They are joined permanently onto neighboring teeth or dental implants using metal bands and resin.

There are three types of dental bridge used in restorative dentistry, and the type used is dependent upon the suitability of the teeth it is to be fixed to, and wherein the mouth the bridge is to be positioned.

We at Greenspoint Dental, offer dental bridge services in Houston, TX at an affordable cost.

Fixed Bridge

The most common dental bridge is the fixed bridge. Here the false tooth, known as a pontic, is fixed to crowns that are anchored to the neighboring teeth if the neighboring teeth are suitable. This type of bridge is permanently fixed and cannot be moved. It is particularly strong and may be used anywhere in the mouth.

Resin Bonded Bridge

This type of bridge is attached to the adjacent teeth using metal bonds and resin only, rather than crowns. It is not as strong as a fixed bridge, and is most suitable for use where stress will be minimal, such as the front teeth.

Cantilever Bridge

If there are only healthy teeth available on one side of the gap, then a cantilever bridge is used. It is anchored to one or more teeth on just one side, and so is only suitable for front teeth, where the stress exerted is minimal.

Procedure for Dental Bridges

Generally, only two appointments will be required to have a dental bridge fitted, and the procedure is carried out under a local anesthetic.

At the first visit, the teeth and gums on either side of the gap are prepared so that the crowns will fit. The dentist then makes an impression of the teeth, which is sent to a laboratory to fashion the new dental bridge.

A temporary, removable dental bridge is fitted until the second visit.

At the second visit the temporary bridge is removed and the new bridge fitted and cemented into place.

Advantages of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges require only a couple of visits to the dentist and are a quick, long-term, solution to the problem of tooth loss. For patients who find dentures uncomfortable, or who prefer a more permanent, stable solution to tooth removal, bridges are a perfect option. With regular check-ups and good oral hygiene, these bridges should last for up to 15 years.

Bridges are a straight-forward restorative dental procedure, producing natural-looking teeth and improving appearance. They also improve speech and bite problems, which often occur as a result of missing teeth. Replacing missing teeth maintains the facial structure, adding to an overall improvement in appearance, and restoring confidence to patients who have lost teeth.

Ensuring there are no gaps left by missing teeth generally improves oral health by preventing remaining teeth from drifting out of position and causing more problems for the patient. It is a secure, relatively easy cosmetic dental solution to the problem of missing teeth.
