Since late July, we’ve been celebrating the arrival of our newest dentist, Dr. Kari Blankenship, with a backpack giveaway at the beginning of each week.

Dr. Blankenship is a recent graduate of the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. She graduated with a doctorate in Dental Surgery, but will be focusing on pediatric dentistry here at our office.

“Back to school is an important time to go to the dentist,” Dr. Blankenship said. “Oral health affects a child’s overall health, so a visit to the dentist for a checkup and teeth cleaning should be a part of every child’s back-to-school routine.”

Every Monday, backpack winners are chosen through a drawing of the previous week’s school-aged patients. The backpacks are filled with other school supplies that could be helpful, such as notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, markers and a ruler.

We’re not the only ones getting involved in the back-to-school oral health effort, however. Last week we discovered an unlikely ally: Elmo! Check out Elmo’s brushing music video below.
